For time-sensitive topics, fresh content can outrank older, more authoritative pages. A freshly published article on a breaking news event from a mid-authority site can appear above an older evergreen guide from a high-authority domain if the query is classified as needing fresh content. Understanding QDF helps in deciding when to update existing content (for recurring queries like "best X in 2026"), when to publish promptly (for breaking news), and when freshness is irrelevant (for stable educational queries where comprehensive, well-linked content outranks freshly published thin content).
