The structural design of how content is organised, labelled, and navigated within a website — the taxonomy, URL hierarchy, navigation structure, and content relationships that determine how users and search engines understand and move through the site.

Information architecture (IA) in the web context is the discipline of organising content in a way that makes it findable and understandable for users and crawlers. For SEO, information architecture directly affects crawlability (how efficiently Googlebot discovers all pages), internal PageRank distribution (how link equity flows through the site), topical authority signalling (whether Google understands the site\'s topic structure), and user experience (whether users can navigate to their goal efficiently). **Key IA elements for SEO**: (1) **URL hierarchy** — the URL structure should reflect the site\'s content taxonomy: `/category/subcategory/page` communicates hierarchy, while a flat `/page-name` structure provides no hierarchical context. The depth should be shallow enough for Googlebot to reach every page within 3–4 clicks from the homepage. (2) **Navigation structure** — the main navigation (header) and secondary navigation (footer) should provide access to the site\'s most important content sections. Pages linked from the main navigation inherit the most internal PageRank. (3) **Content taxonomy** — how content is categorised (blog categories, product categories, tag hierarchies) determines how topically related content is grouped and linked. A well-designed taxonomy creates natural topic clusters.
