Merchant Listing Schema
Google\'s term for the structured data (Product + Offer schema) submitted on merchant product pages and used to populate Google Shopping, the Shopping tab, and AI-powered shopping features — distinguishing retailer-specific product data from manufacturer specification data.
Definition
Google uses the term "merchant listing" to distinguish product pages from ecommerce merchant websites (retailers, brands, resellers) from product specification pages (manufacturer spec sheets, review sites, comparison sites). Merchant listing structured data — `Product` schema with a `Offers` property containing price, availability, and merchant information — is specifically used to populate: (1) **Google Shopping results**: the paid Shopping carousel at the top of product-intent SERPs (powered by Google Merchant Center feed + website structured data consistency); (2) **Free product listings**: free, organic product listings that appear in the Shopping tab and in product carousels in organic results for eligible products; (3) **AI shopping features**: Google\'s Shopping Graph uses merchant listing structured data to power AI-generated shopping experiences that surface specific products with price and availability. Requirements for merchant listings to qualify for Google\'s features: `Product` type, `name`, at least one `Offers` with `price`, `priceCurrency`, and `availability`. `image`, `description`, and `aggregateRating` are strongly recommended. For multi-merchant or marketplace listings where multiple sellers offer the same product, each seller\'s offer should be a separate `Offer` object in the `offers` array. Merchant listing structured data is distinct from the Merchant Center product data feed — both are used by Google for Shopping features, but structured data is crawled from the merchant\'s website while the feed is submitted directly.
Why it matters for SEO
Accurate, server-rendered merchant listing structured data on product pages is required for free organic product listing eligibility in Google\'s Shopping tab. Merchants who have claimed their Business Profile and verified their website in Merchant Center can receive free shopping impressions — but only if their product pages have qualifying structured data. The incremental value of free Shopping listings adds significant organic traffic to paid Shopping campaigns.
How DeepSEOAnalysis checks this
DeepSEOAnalysis validates that Product schema on merchant product pages includes the minimum properties required for merchant listing eligibility (`name`, `offers` with `price`, `priceCurrency`, `availability`), checks that the structured data is server-rendered, and validates price currency format matches Google\'s requirements (ISO 4217 currency code).
