Page Experience components: (1) **Core Web Vitals**: the primary and most heavily-weighted component. LCP (Largest Contentful Paint) — loading performance at p75 must be ≤2.5s for "Good" status. CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift) — visual stability at p75 must be ≤0.1. INP (Interaction to Next Paint) — input responsiveness at p75 must be ≤200ms. Google uses real CrUX field data from Chrome users, not lab simulation — if insufficient real user data exists for a URL, Google falls back to origin-level data. (2) **HTTPS**: the page must be served over HTTPS rather than HTTP. Most modern sites satisfy this requirement. (3) **No intrusive interstitials**: pop-ups or overlays that obstruct content immediately on page load are a negative signal. Standard cookie consent banners are exempt; full-page interstitials that block content before user interaction are penalised. Page Experience as a ranking factor: Google confirmed that Page Experience applies as a tiebreaker signal — where two pages have comparable content quality, the page with better Core Web Vitals scores will rank higher. It does not override content relevance signals: a highly relevant page with Poor CWV will typically outrank an irrelevant page with Good CWV for the same query. The practical impact is largest in competitive query spaces where many pages have similar content quality, and technical differentiation matters more.
