URL Rating (UR)

Ahrefs\' proprietary metric measuring the link authority of a specific URL — based on the quantity and quality of backlinks pointing to that page. URL Rating (UR) is a page-level metric; Domain Rating (DR) is the equivalent domain-level metric.

Definition

URL Rating (UR) is a proprietary metric developed by Ahrefs (ahrefs.com) to quantify the link-based authority of a specific URL (a single page), as opposed to Domain Rating (DR), which measures domain-level link authority. UR is calculated on a logarithmic scale from 0 to 100 based on the number and quality of unique referring domains and pages linking to the specific URL. A URL Rating of 40 indicates stronger link authority than UR 20, but the scale is logarithmic — the difference between UR 70 and UR 80 represents a much larger increase in raw linking authority than the difference between UR 20 and UR 30. URL Rating is similar in concept to page-level PageRank, though it\'s calculated from Ahrefs\' own link index rather than Google\'s. High UR correlates with ranking ability for competitive queries, but UR alone does not determine rankings — content relevance, topical authority, and user experience signals matter equally or more. URL Rating can be viewed in Ahrefs\' Site Explorer for any URL, or via the Ahrefs API.

Why it matters for SEO

URL Rating is useful for: (1) Identifying which pages on your site have the most link authority and could support other pages via internal linking. (2) Evaluating the link profile of specific pages (not just the domain) — a domain with DR 60 may have individual pages ranging from UR 5 to UR 70. (3) Competitive analysis — comparing the UR of competing pages for a specific query to understand how much link authority you\'d need to acquire to compete. (4) Link prospecting — assessing whether a potential link building target has meaningful page-level authority (UR) in addition to domain authority (DR). Like Domain Rating, URL Rating is a third-party metric that correlates with Google ranking potential but does not represent any Google-internal score.
