GSC Property
A Google Search Console property is a verified website or URL prefix registered in Google Search Console that grants access to performance data, indexing status, rich result reports, and crawl diagnostics for that specific domain or URL scope.
Definition
A GSC property is the registration of a website in Google Search Console — the configured scope within which GSC data is collected and reported. Property types: (1) **Domain property** — covers all URLs across all subdomains (www, m., blog., shop.) and all protocols (http, https) for a root domain. Most comprehensive; requires DNS TXT record verification. (2) **URL prefix property** — covers only URLs beginning with a specific protocol and subdomain prefix (e.g., https://www.example.com/ only, not https://blog.example.com/). Supports multiple verification methods (HTML tag, GSC HTML file, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, DNS). Most sites should use domain properties to capture all traffic under the root domain. Property verification: before seeing data, site ownership must be verified. Domain property verification requires adding a TXT record to the domain\'s DNS settings. URL prefix properties can be verified by uploading a specific HTML file, adding a specific meta tag to the site\'s homepage, or via Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager. Multiple users can be added to a GSC property with different permission levels (Owner, Full user, Restricted user). Multiple properties for the same domain: it is common to have both a domain property and individual URL prefix properties — the domain property captures everything; prefix properties can be useful for monitoring specific subdomains or directories separately. GSC property data: each property shows its own performance report (impressions, clicks, positions), indexing report (which URLs are indexed and which are excluded with reasons), URL inspection (individual URL indexing status and last crawl data), rich result reports (structured data eligibility by type), Core Web Vitals reports, and sitemap submission status.
Why it matters for SEO
GSC property setup is a foundational prerequisite for any SEO monitoring and data analysis. Without a verified GSC property, there is no access to: which queries the site ranks for, which pages are indexed or excluded and why, structured data validation reports, Core Web Vitals field data, or sitemap processing status. Setting up both a domain property and submitting a sitemap is the first SEO action any site should take.
How DeepSEOAnalysis checks this
DeepSEOAnalysis integrates with GSC properties (when API access is granted) to import query and impression data for cross-referencing with technical audit findings. The integration allows identifying which pages in the GSC performance report have technical issues detected by DeepSEOAnalysis — prioritising technical fixes by their potential search traffic impact.
