Google Search Console Data

Data from Google Search Console — impressions, clicks, average position, and CTR by query and page — used to identify ranking opportunities (striking distance keywords), diagnose traffic changes, monitor indexing status, and measure the impact of SEO changes.

Definition

Google Search Console (GSC) data refers to the performance metrics and diagnostic data available in Google\'s free Search Console tool for website owners. GSC data is unique and authoritative because it comes directly from Google\'s search systems — it shows actual impressions and clicks from Google Search, not sampled data. Key GSC data types: (1) **Performance data** — queries (what users searched when they saw your page), pages (which pages received impressions/clicks), impressions (how many times a page appeared in search results), clicks (how many times users clicked through), average position (average rank at which the page appeared), and CTR (click-through rate). (2) **Indexing data** — how many pages are indexed vs not indexed, reasons why pages aren\'t indexed (crawl errors, robots.txt exclusions, noindex tags, duplicate content deduplication). (3) **Core Web Vitals data** — real CrUX field data for pages with sufficient traffic, showing good/needs improvement/poor distribution for LCP, CLS, and INP. (4) **Enhancement data** — rich result eligibility status for structured data types (valid, warnings, errors) and page experience signals. GSC data limitations: impression data shows up to 16 months of history (updated daily with ~3 day delay); query data is truncated at 1,000 rows per date range (the rest is aggregated under "other"); impressions below a threshold may not appear. Using GSC data for SEO: (1) Find striking-distance keywords (queries where average position is 6–20 — close enough to rank on page 1 with content improvements). (2) Identify CTR opportunities (high-impression, low-CTR queries where a title/meta description improvement could increase clicks without changing rank). (3) Monitor indexing status after publishing new content. (4) Diagnose traffic changes by identifying which queries gained or lost impressions.

Why it matters for SEO

Google Search Console data is the most authoritative and actionable SEO data available: it comes directly from Google and shows exactly what queries your site ranks for and how users interact with your results in search. Unlike third-party tools (which estimate rankings based on periodic rank checks), GSC shows impressions and clicks from actual search activity. For any site with organic search traffic, GSC is the primary diagnostic and optimisation tool.

How DeepSEOAnalysis checks this

DeepSEOAnalysis imports GSC data (when GSC API access is provided) to identify which pages have technical issues that may be suppressing their ranking potential — cross-referencing GSC impressions and position data with technical audit results to prioritise fixes. Pages with high impressions and poor technical quality (missing structured data, poor CrUX, blocked AI crawlers) are the highest-priority optimisation targets.
