Parasite SEO

Parasite SEO is the practice of publishing content on high-authority third-party platforms (Medium, LinkedIn, Reddit, Quora, HubPages, press release sites, subdomains of major domains) to leverage their domain authority and rank content that would not rank on a lower-authority root domain. It carries significant risk as platforms can delete content, and Google increasingly targets low-quality parasite content.

The mechanism: a page published on `medium.com/your-article` ranks more easily than the same content on `yourlowdauthority.com/your-article` because Google trusts Medium\'s domain authority. The "host" domain (Medium, LinkedIn, Forbes contributor network, government sites with open publishing) is the "host" the content parasitically relies on for ranking. **Types of parasite SEO**: (1) **Free platform publishing** — publishing on Medium, LinkedIn Articles, Quora Spaces, Reddit, Substack, or similar high-DA platforms and optimising for specific queries. (b) Google algorithm targeting — Google has specifically targeted "parasite SEO" content in its spam updates, particularly on platforms where low-quality commercial content is mass-published.
