Price Drop Schema
Google\'s detection of price reductions on product pages — using `priceValidUntil`, `highPrice`, and price history comparison within `Offer` schema — to display "Price drop" labels in product rich results when Google identifies a significant price reduction from a product\'s recent historical price.
Definition
Price drop indicators in Google search results are generated by Google automatically when it detects a significant price reduction relative to a product\'s recently observed price history. Google crawls product pages and tracks `Offer.price` values over time — when the current price is meaningfully lower than the recent historical price, a "Price drop" label may appear in the product rich snippet. Schema properties that support price drop detection: (1) **`priceValidUntil`**: a date until which the current `Offer.price` is valid — signals that the price may increase after this date and helps Google identify sale and promotional pricing; (2) **`highPrice` and `lowPrice`** on `AggregateOffer`: when a product is sold by multiple sellers or in multiple variants, these properties communicate the price range across all offers; (3) **Consistent `price` in structured data**: the `Offer.price` in schema must exactly match the displayed page price — any discrepancy prevents price data from being used for price drop detection. Price drop labels are automatically generated by Google — merchants cannot directly trigger them. However, ensuring accurate `Offer.price` and `priceValidUntil` in schema, maintained consistently as prices change, gives Google the cleanest possible price signal. Note: price drop labels are not currently supported in all markets or for all product categories.
Why it matters for SEO
Price drop labels in product rich results provide a strong CTR incentive — shoppers are actively looking for deals and a "Price drop" badge signals immediate purchase opportunity. Appearing with a price drop label during promotional pricing periods (Black Friday, seasonal sales) can significantly increase organic shopping traffic during high-intent commercial periods. Accurate schema pricing data is the prerequisite for Google\'s price drop detection.
How DeepSEOAnalysis checks this
DeepSEOAnalysis validates `Offer.price` is present and matches the visible product price, checks `priceValidUntil` format (ISO 8601 date), validates `priceCurrency` uses ISO 4217 currency code, and confirms all `Offer` properties are server-rendered in the initial HTML. Price consistency between schema and page is specifically checked.
