STRUCTURED DATA · SEO GLOSSARY

Rich Result

An enhanced SERP listing that shows additional content — star ratings, FAQ dropdowns, sitelinks, How-To steps — generated from valid structured data on the page.

Definition

Rich results (formerly called rich snippets) are Google SERP listings that show more than just the title, URL, and meta description. They are generated when Google finds valid Schema.org structured data on a page and decides to display it visually. Types of rich results include: review stars and ratings (from `Product`, `Recipe`, or `Review` schema), FAQ dropdowns (from `FAQPage` schema), How-To steps (from `HowTo` schema), sitelinks search boxes, event listings, job postings, breadcrumb trails, and more. Not every valid schema implementation earns a rich result — Google decides based on quality signals, relevance, and its own criteria.

Why it matters for SEO

Rich results increase visual footprint in the SERP, which drives higher CTR — a page with star ratings or an FAQ dropdown is larger and more informative than a plain blue link. FAQ dropdowns can dominate the SERP for informational queries, pushing competitor results below the fold. However, Google can demote or remove rich results at any time if the schema is found to be spammy, inaccurate, or if the content behind it doesn't match what the schema claims.

How DeepSEOAnalysis checks this

The audit validates all Schema.org structured data on your pages against Google's rich result requirements — checking required properties, recommended properties, and common error patterns. It flags invalid schema (which disqualifies you from rich results entirely) and incomplete schema (which reduces eligibility). The schema generator tool provides ready-to-paste JSON-LD that passes Google's Rich Results Test.
